Job summary

University of Dayton Research Institute is seeking an Accounts Payable Manager to lead the AP function onsite in Dayton, Ohio. You will build scalable processes, implement strong controls, and develop a high-performing AP team while ensuring accurate and timely payment processing for vendors and employees.

The role includes overseeing month-end and year-end close activities, resolving vendor discrepancies, managing 1099s, and maintaining supplier relationships as part of the accounting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of six years in accounts payable or related function.
• Two or more years of supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of the complete accounts payable cycle, including invoices, payments, reimbursements, vendor management, reconciliations, and period-end close.
• Experience developing or improving accounts payable processes and internal controls.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and an ERP/financial system.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage UDRI's accounts payable function, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant processing of vendor invoices and employee reimbursements.
• Develop scalable AP processes and internal controls to support growth and transition to independence.
• Oversee vendor management, 1099 creation/validation, and month-end/year-end close activities.
• Provide guidance and training to AP staff and coordinate with other departments to resolve discrepancies.

The UDRI Accounts Payable Manager will lead and manage UDRI's accounts payable function, ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and other payments. The position will establish and maintain effective A/P processes, internal controls, vendor management practices, and system workflows while leading and developing the A/P team and supporting month-end and year-end financial close activities. The A/P Manager will serve as the primary contact to resolve vendor billing discrepancies and maintain strong supplier relationships. The A/P Manager will oversee the creation and validation of 1099s.
As a foundational member of the UDRI accounting organization, the Accounts Payable Manager will play a key role in designing, implementing, and continuously improving scalable processes and controls that support UDRI's transition to independent operations.
This position is located in Dayton, Ohio onsite.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field OR four years of relevant experience.
• Minimum of six years of directly related experience in accounts payable, accounting operations, or a related financial function.
• Two or more years of supervisory or team-lead experience.
• Knowledge of the complete accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, payment processing, employee reimbursements, vendor management, account reconciliation, and period-end close activities.
• Experience developing, implementing, or improving accounts payable processes, procedures, workflows, and internal controls.
• The ability to independently analyze and resolve complex accounts payable and accounting issues in accordance with established policies and accounting principles.
• Experience providing technical direction, training, or work guidance to accounting or administrative staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using an enterprise resource planning or financial accounting system.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated attention to accuracy and detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Experience working and collaborating with various and diverse constituents.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in accounting or finance.
• Ten or more years of directly related supervisory experience in accounts payable, accounting operations, or a related financial function.
• Experience managing an accounts payable function in a complex or high-volume organization.
• Experience with Deltek Costpoint or a comparable enterprise resource planning system.
• Experience in government contracting, sponsored research, or another highly regulated environment.
• Experience establishing or significantly redesigning an accounts payable function, including implementing policies, internal controls, approval workflows, and performance measures.
• Experience supporting an ERP implementation, financial-system conversion, or accounts payable automation initiative.
