The role partners with Procurement, Accounting, and Finance to optimize AP processes, support month‑end close, and drive automation initiatives to improve accuracy, efficiency, and vendor satisfaction.

Job description

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounts payable function and leading a team of five AP professionals. This role ensures the accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments while maintaining strong internal controls, supporting month-end close activities, and driving process improvements across the AP function.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of five accounts payable professionals, including workload allocation, performance management, and ongoing training.
• Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, payment processing, and vendor account reconciliation.
• Ensure invoices and payments are processed accurately, timely, and in accordance with company policies and established controls.
• Manage weekly payment runs, including ACH, wire transfers, checks, and other payment methods.
• Review and resolve invoice discrepancies, payment issues, and vendor inquiries.
• Maintain strong vendor relationships and oversee vendor setup and maintenance processes.
• Partner with Procurement, Accounting, Finance, and business stakeholders to resolve issues and improve AP processes.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities, including AP reconciliations, accruals, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and responding to AP‑related inquiries.
• Monitor AP metrics and team performance, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and service levels.
• Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and AP best practices.
• Maintain accurate documentation of AP procedures, controls, and workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounts payable or accounting experience, including supervisory or management experience.
• Experience managing and developing an accounts payable team.
• Strong understanding of accounts payable processes, accounting principles, internal controls, and month‑end close.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems and AP automation platforms; advanced Excel skills preferred.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external vendors.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
