Job summary

The City of Cedar Rapids seeks an Accounts Payable Specialist to lead the AP operations in the Accounting Department. You will supervise staff, manage payments, perform expenditure reviews, and ensure policy compliance.

Additional duties include procurement card administration, vendor data maintenance, and supporting annual reporting and audits. This is a full-time, on-site role in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• Five to seven years’ accounting, general ledger, accounts payable, or purchasing experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and/or experience accepted.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and assigns accounts payable tasks and supervises AP staff.
• Performs expenditure review, processing, and reporting for compliance.
• Administers the procurement card program and ensures policy adherence.
• Supervises assigned personnel and conducts performance evaluations.
• Processes and reconciles general ledger postings for AP accruals and payments.
• Provides information to independent auditors and distributes standard reports.
• Maintains fiscal records to provide audit trails and compliance.
• Collects and reconciles vendor and payment data for 1099 reporting.
• Oversees annual unclaimed property data management and related reports.
