About the Position

This role reports to the Finance Director and manages the monthly P&L and Balance Sheet for an acquired company within the Specialty Program Group accounting center. Responsibilities include managing A/P and A/R, submitting journal entries, performing reconciliations and analysis, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Execute month-end closing processes, prepare journal entries, and generate financial reports (P&L, trial balance, bank reconciliations, A/R reports).
  2. Manage payment processing, including verifying payment information, applying payments, processing claims, and managing payables to insurance carriers.
  3. Reconcile carrier/broker payment differences.
  4. Manage A/R and collections for overdue payments.
  5. Oversee premium audit processes, reviewing documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  6. Reconcile bank statements with payment records and the general ledger to ensure accuracy.
  7. Create and file tax reports for each state as required.
  8. Perform balance sheet reconciliations and oversee accruals, true-ups, settlements, and bad debt calculations.
  9. Maintain a solid understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and payment procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA or pursuing CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting.
  • At least 2 years of team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Insurance experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, payment platforms, and banking systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to take initiative.
  • Flexible with work hours, including extra hours during peak times.
