Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Accounting Supervisor assists the Complex Finance Manager with monitoring, analyzing, preparing, and reporting on performance, cost drivers, and variances related to plant operational costs across various products and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  1. Assist the Complex Finance Manager with supervising daily accounting activities, including general ledger entries, reporting, product costing, performance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  2. Monitor, analyze, and prepare reports on cost drivers and plant performance metrics, such as cost per pound, variances, and statistics; communicate unusual findings to relevant personnel.
  3. Compile data and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, trial balances, and income statements; distribute reports to appropriate stakeholders.
  4. Oversee the monthly closing process, including the issuance of financial and performance reports, approve reconciliations, and identify root causes of performance fluctuations.
  5. Manage weekly manufacturing and conversion cost analyses, including profit and loss reports, ensuring accuracy.
  6. Mentor, coach, and train employees, encouraging career development and providing feedback on performance.
  7. Provide leadership in the absence of the Complex Finance Manager to ensure daily responsibilities are fulfilled.
  8. Assist in preparing the annual operating plan (AOP) and statistical goals for plant operations.
  9. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This role involves leadership competencies such as sizing up people, delegation, planning, customer focus, and conflict management.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant accounting experience; manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Leadership experience with knowledge of timekeeping, policy adherence, conflict resolution, and issue resolution.
  • Knowledge of finance, financial indicators, and product cost modeling, especially in meat/poultry processing, hatchery, and feed mill operations (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Adage, M-Tech, or similar systems is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; multilingual abilities are preferred.
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative, sense of urgency, customer focus, high energy, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Follow safety policies and wear protective equipment as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to remain stationary during periods of intense concentration.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard shifts when necessary.
