Job description

Position Overview

The Shared Service Centers Finance at the University of Kansas is seeking two Accounting Specialist positions. These roles involve managing daily finance activities, working with departments and centers, and collaborating with the SSC Finance Manager and/or Director to ensure excellent client service. Responsibilities include using accounting skills to support departments, providing accurate financial information, and processing transactions efficiently.

The SSC Accounting Specialist will deliver timely, professional services that support the administrative and service goals of the units served. Reporting to the SSC Finance Manager or SSC Accountant, the role involves transaction processing for assigned units.

Job Description
  1. 60% Responsibilities include:
    • Processing payments and purchase requisitions in university financial systems, ensuring correct accounts and funding.
    • Developing unit processes for proper funding use and resource availability; auditing procurement card purchases for compliance.
    • Managing travel reimbursements, reviewing requests, and processing payments in accordance with laws and regulations.
    • Knowledge of university purchasing, bid procedures, contracts, and federal regulations.
    • Processing accounts receivable transactions and resolving billing issues.
    • Verifying scholarship recipients, processing postings, and providing data and reports to leadership.
  2. 30% Responsibilities include:
    • Monitoring fiscal operations for compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Monitoring expenses, processing cost transfers, and identifying discrepancies.
    • Assisting with operational needs and budgets, providing financial reports, and supporting leadership.
    • Monitoring accounts receivable, revenues, and expenses, and escalating issues as needed.
  3. 10% Other Responsibilities:
    • Coordinating with central finance on policies and procedures.
    • Recommending procedural changes and maintaining manuals.
    • Serving as a resource for staff and faculty, participating in meetings and professional development.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

This is a fully remote position with occasional in-person meetings, trainings, and team events. Due to state employment laws, applicants outside Kansas, California, and Delaware are not eligible.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field, OR High School Diploma/GED with three years of relevant experience.
  2. Proficiency in PC/Windows environment, including MS Word and MS Excel.
  3. Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
