Job summary

Detroit Housing Commission seeks an Accounting Manager to supervise accounting/finance staff, oversee treasury functions, and maintain the General Ledger and Chart of Accounts. You will ensure HUD compliance and GAAP adherence while enforcing departmental policies.

This role reports to the Controller and requires leadership of GL accountants and specialists. Position emphasizes cash position monitoring, banking oversight, and implementation of robust procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; master’s degree or CPA preferred.
• Experience in development/grants/construction accounting preferred.
• Active CPA license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Play a key role in preparing for the annual financial audit and HUD reporting.
• Prepare weekly Cash Position report; handle banking functions such as transfers and cash analysis.
• Review and post bank reconciliations and general ledger entries.
• Assist in oversight of treasury functions and cash flow forecasting.
• Train and develop accounting staff.
