Your resume and cover letter, tailored to exactly what they’re hiring for.
Zanda is seeking an Accounting Manager to build out the finance function as the first accounting hire. You will own the month-end close, manage AP/AR, payroll, and vendor relations, and partner with operations to ensure accurate COGS for a hardware/AI company.
The role reports to senior leadership and offers equity/bonus alongside a competitive base salary in the Bay Area, with a strong path toward a Controller role as the company scales.
Zanda is an executive search partner working exclusively with high-growth startups and scale-ups as they build out their finance leadership teams. We work closely with founders, CEOs, CFOs, and investors to deliver key finance hires during critical moments of growth.
We're working with a Y Combinator–backed consumer hardware and AI company that’s still under two years old and already scaling fast, hundreds of thousands of users, revenue coming from both hardware sales and a recurring software subscription, and on track to hit $100M in revenue in the next 12 months.
The business is heading into a new phase. Enterprise customers are starting to come in, investor conversations are picking up, and the product line is growing. Finance needs to catch up.
This is the company's first accounting hire, a great opportunity for an Accounting Manager looking for their first Controller opportunity. Finance has kept pace so far, but only just, and what's gotten them here won’t get them through the next stretch. The job is to get the books into proper shape, clean financials, real controls, a close that actually happens on schedule, without slowing anything down.
Day to day, you’ll own the month‑end close: journal entries, reconciliations, balance sheet schedules, and the monthly numbers that go to the founders. You’ll build toward quarterly and annual statements as things mature. You’ll also run AP and AR, vendors paid on time, subscription billing and collections handled, cash applied correctly, and work with the operations team to make sure hardware inventory receipts tie out so COGS is right.
Payroll is yours too, working alongside the People team, plus expense reimbursements and the monthly payroll reconciliation. Outside of the core close work, you’ll help pick and roll out better accounting systems as the company grows into them, get processes that currently live in people’s heads written down properly, and help get things audit‑ready, the first audit is coming.
You’ll work closely with senior finance leadership and the founding team. This is a build‑it‑yourself kind of role.
Base salary: $150,000 - $200,000, plus equity and a performance bonus. Benefits include health, dental, and vision, plus a 401(k) with company match.
