Job summary

Iron Construction, Inc. is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the company’s accounting function for a small, project-based environment. You will oversee AP/AR, job costing, GMP billing, cash flow, and coordination with the CPA and outside professionals.

The role requires 7+ years in accounting, preferably in construction, with strong Excel and foundations software skills, and the ability to work independently with Project Managers and leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a senior or management-level role.
• Experience with month-end close, AP, AR, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
• Construction accounting experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with job costing and project-based accounting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, general ledger, and account reconciliations.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and financial reporting.
• Oversee project accounting, job costing, GMP billing, and coordination with Project Managers.
• Monitor project costs, billing, receivables, and overall financial performance.
• Prepare and maintain cash-flow forecasts and assist with budgeting and financial planning.
• Coordinate payroll accounting and the accounting/reconciliation of 401(k) contributions.
• Maintain banking relationships and reconcile bank and credit accounts.
• Coordinate with the company's CPA, insurance providers, financial institutions, and other outside professionals.
• Maintain subcontractor and vendor financial documentation, including W-9s and insurance certificates.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and efficiency.
• Serve as a trusted financial resource to ownership, management, and Project Managers.

Experience working for a commercial general contractor, particularly in managing high-tech, manufacturing, tenant improvement or life science projects—is essential to success in this role.

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager with construction or project-based accounting experience to oversee the company's day-to-day accounting operations and provide accurate, timely financial information to ownership and management.

This position will have primary responsibility for the company's accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, cash management, reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll accounting, and coordination with the company's CPA and outside financial professionals.

The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional who is comfortable working independently, understands project-based accounting, and can work closely with Project Managers and company leadership to ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and timely. Experience working with subcontractors and construction-related documentation such as change orders, project estimates, GMP billing and project financial reporting.

This is a hands-on, standalone accounting leadership role with responsibility for the company's complete accounting function. The position does not currently have direct reports and is well suited for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of all aspects of accounting for a small, project-based company.

• Experience with payroll accounting and 401(k) contribution reconciliation is preferred.
• Strong Excel and Accounting software skills, preferable Foundation.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

This position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, confidentiality, organization, and the ability to identify and resolve accounting issues proactively.
