Job description

NextStep Recruiting has partnered with a growing construction organization to identify an Accounting Manager in North Dallas. This newly created direct-hire position is 100% onsite and will serve as the financial owner for the division, overseeing project accounting, financial reporting, job costing, budgeting, forecasting, and operational financial analysis.

This position is ideal for a sharp, hands‑on construction accounting professional who is naturally inquisitive and wants to understand the story behind the numbers. The ideal candidate will dig into project performance, question unusual cost or margin trends, identify potential issues before they become larger problems, and partner closely with operational leadership to improve profitability and financial performance.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry
  • Strong construction accounting expertise, including WIP schedules, percentage‑of‑completion accounting, job costing, cost coding, cost recognition, project profitability, and margin analysis
  • Hands‑on experience with month‑end close, journal entries, accruals, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience supporting annual budgets, recurring forecasts, variance analysis, and project‑based financial planning
  • Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas, and financial analysis, along with experience using a robust ERP system

Preferred:

  • CPA certification
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience
  • Experience within residential construction, specialty contracting, or another project‑based construction environment
  • Strong analytical or audit mindset with experience identifying unusual project costs, vendor trends, margin erosion, labor inefficiencies, or other financial discrepancies
  • Experience developing KPIs and dashboards around job profitability, backlog, labor productivity, project costs, working capital, and operational performance

If you're looking for a highly visible accounting role, want to own construction financials, and partner directly with leadership to uncover opportunities and improve project profitability, we'd love to connect.
