Job summary

Enlightened in Washington, DC is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting function, own the close process, and manage a small team. You will ensure GAAP compliance, accurate financial reporting, and audit readiness.

This hybrid role requires 8+ years of accounting experience with people management, strong Excel skills, and ERP experience (Dynamics SL, UNANET). You will collaborate with the Controller on budgeting and forecasting, mentoring two accounting staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 8+ years of accounting experience with managing people (3–5) preferred.
• Solid GAAP knowledge and hands-on ERP experience.
• Advanced Excel skills beneficial.
• Ability to explain variances to non-accountants clearly.

Responsibilities

• Run monthly and year-end close with journals, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Manage AP, AR, GL, bank reconciliations, cash forecasting, financial reporting, and fixed assets.
• Maintain GAAP compliance and robust internal controls.
• Serve as main point of contact for external auditors and tax preparers.
• Supervise and develop two accounting staff with coaching and growth.
• Flag variances and trends; assist budgeting and cash flow forecasting.
• Identify and streamline inefficient accounting processes and automate repetitive tasks.

Position Summary

We're looking for an Accounting Manager to run the day-to-day of our accounting function and keep our books tight, accurate, and audit-ready. You'll own the close process, manage a small team, and be the person leadership turns to when they need a straight answer on the numbers.

Responsibilities

• Run monthly and year-end close - journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, on time and accurate
• Manage AP, AR, general ledger, bank reconciliation, cash forecasting, financial reporting and fixed assets
• Keep our books GAAP-compliant and our internal controls working, not just documented
• Be the main point of contact for external auditors and tax preparers
• Supervise and develop 2 accounting staff - this includes real coaching, guidance and growth
• Proactively flag variances and trends in the numbers
• Work with the Controller on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow visibilityIdentify and improve inefficient or manual accounting processes, including opportunities to streamline workflows and automate repetitive tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 8+ years of accounting experience, with at least three to five managing people
• Solid grasp of GAAP and hands-on experience with a cloud and Server based ERP (Dynamics SL, UNANET)
• Comfortable in Excel beyond basic formulas
• Someone who can explain a variance to a non-accountant without losing them

Nice to Have

• CPA or CMA
• Experience in Gov Con, Commercial and Private Contracts
• Experience through an ERP migration from start to finish

The expected salary range for this position is listed above. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
