Job summary

Atlas Search in Missouri is seeking an Accounting Manager to support the Controller in overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls within a consumer goods environment.

You will lead month-end close, manage GL/AP/AR, and partner with FP&A, supply chain, and operations to deliver accurate, timely financial information and strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• CPA certification preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience in consumer goods, retail, or distribution preferred.
• Experience mentoring accounting staff.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and month-end close experience.
• ERP proficiency and advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with GAAP adherence.
• Manage GL, accounts payable, and accounts receivable including staff supervision.
• Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and schedules.
• Partner with FP&A on budget variance analysis and department reporting.
• Coordinate with external auditors on audits.
• Support inventory accounting, COGS analysis for consumer goods.
• Ensure internal controls and SOX documentation where applicable.
• Assist in evaluating accounting system enhancements.
• Perform technical accounting research on complex transactions.
• Support ad hoc reporting and special projects for Controller/CFO.

The Accounting Manager will support the Controller in overseeing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls within a consumer goods environment. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, experience managing a team, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with FP&A, supply chain, and operations to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP
• Manage general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions, including staff supervision
• Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules
• Partner with FP&A on budget variance analysis and departmental expense reporting
• Coordinate with external auditors on interim and year-end audits
• Support inventory accounting, cost accounting, and COGS analysis specific to consumer goods operations (e.g., promotional allowances, trade spend, rebates, chargebacks)
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and support SOX documentation, if applicable
• Assist in evaluating and implementing accounting system enhancements and process improvements
• Perform technical accounting research on complex transactions (revenue recognition, leases, inventory reserves)
• Support ad hoc reporting and special projects as requested by the Controller/CFO

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including consumer goods, retail, or distribution industry exposure
• Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close processes
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills
• Experience with inventory/COGS accounting and trade spend a plus
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with operations and commercial teams
