Job summary

Archwest Capital in Irvine, CA is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support month-end close and GAAP reporting. You will prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and assist with audits.

You will supervise junior staff, ensure accuracy, and collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations and Loan Administration. Strong Excel, GAAP knowledge, and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including in both public accounting and private industry preferred.
  • Real estate finance, mortgage lending, private credit, or related financial services industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Active or inactive CPA license preferred, but not required.
  • Prior supervisory, team lead, or management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, fluctuations analyses, and supporting schedules.
  • Review work prepared by staff for accuracy, completeness, and GAAP compliance.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
  • Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, management reports, and audit schedules.
  • Coordinate with external audit and tax teams for PBC requests and follow-up inquiries.
  • Support internal controls through documentation and escalation of gaps.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Loan Administration, and other departments to resolve accounting matters.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate advanced Excel capabilities with large datasets.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Manager in managing assigned areas of the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, fluctuation analyses, and supporting schedules
  • Serve as the first-level reviewer for work prepared by staff, ensuring schedules are accurate, complete, well-supported, and prepared in accordance with GAAP
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items and variances
  • Support the preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements, management reports, and audit schedules
  • Coordinate with external audit and tax teams by preparing PBC requests, providing supporting documentation, and responding to follow-up inquiries
  • Support internal control activities by adhering to established procedures, maintaining appropriate documentation, and escalating control gaps or process issues as needed
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Loan Administration, and other departments to resolve accounting-related matters
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to junior accounting staff as needed
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and the ability to manipulate large datasets effectively
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in both public accounting and private industry preferred
