Our client is seeking an Accounting Manager to partner closely with the Controller and lead the day-to-day accounting operations. This role combines technical accounting ownership, team leadership and process improvement across a multi-company structure. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in the details while developing the team, strengthening controls and improving the efficiency of financial reporting.
Leadership Scope
The Accounting Manager directly leads 3 functional managers: AP/AR Manager, Payroll Manager and Manager of Administrative Services along with 5 indirect team members.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations: AP, AR Payroll, GL and monthly and year-end close.
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, accruals and adjustments to support accurate and timely financial statements.
- Review and approve reconciliations, billing, payables and payroll entries; identify and resolve discrepancies, variances and account imbalances.
- Support internal and external financial reporting requirements, including banks and auditors.
- Manage multiple companies, including intercompany transactions and consolidated financial reporting.
- Serve as a backup resource for payroll and assist with payroll tax filings as needed.
- Strengthen the use of financial systems, including Sage Intacct, while identifying improvements to accounting workflows, controls and reporting.
- Set clear expectations, manage performance and build a collaborative team culture grounded in accountability, continuous improvement and mutual respect.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous supervisory responsibility, ideally within an operations-focused environment.
- Knowledge of GAAP, GL accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Experience with tax, payroll taxes, multi-company accounting, intercompany transactions and consolidated financial statements.
- Strong Excel capability and experience with Sage or comparable ERP system.
- Experience in construction, field services, or industrial services is preferred
