The team acts as a trusted financial partner, delivering accurate accounting and meaningful financial reporting that supports informed decision-making. Services include budgeting support, grant management, and strategic financial guidance designed to strengthen clients’ financial health and compliance. Team members collaborate closely with clients’ leadership to improve transparency, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

About the Role

Count on Us Controller Services is seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to join our growing team serving nonprofit organizations. This position combines direct client accounting responsibilities with team leadership, financial reporting oversight, and client relationship management. The Accounting Manager will lead accounting operations for an assigned portfolio of nonprofit clients while remaining actively involved in accounting activities, financial statement preparation, and special projects. As our firm continues to grow, this role offers opportunities to take on increasing responsibility for team leadership, process improvements, and client portfolio management. We're looking for someone who enjoys both the technical and leadership sides of accounting, takes ownership of results, and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and actively participate in monthly and annual accounting close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Prepare and review reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements, and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP.
• Oversee nonprofit fund accounting, including donor restrictions, grant tracking, functional expense allocations, and related financial reporting.
• Coordinate accounting staff, delegate responsibilities, review work, and manage deadlines across multiple client engagements.
• Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting contact for assigned nonprofit clients.
• Evaluate and implement improvements to accounting processes, fund tracking, reporting, and internal controls.
• Oversee accounting operations, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition.
• Lead or support client budgets, forecasts, financial statement audits, and other reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with the Client CFO on complex accounting matters, financial reporting, and client needs.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Direct nonprofit accounting experience, including fund accounting and grant accounting.
• Experience managing accounting activities across multiple clients or organizations.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, general ledger accounting, and financial statement preparation.
• Demonstrated ability to perform detailed accounting work while managing broader client and team responsibilities.
• Experience reviewing accounting work, coordinating staff responsibilities, and managing multiple deadlines.
• Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

• Experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, or client advisory services.
• Familiarity with accounting process improvements, financial reporting systems, and automation.

Schedule and Work Environment

Full-time Remote/Hybrid Position with in-office client days up to twice a week.

Ability to respond to client inquiries and priorities within agreed-upon service expectations
