Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close and improve timelines and data accuracy.
• Maintain a complete general ledger and deliver timely financial statements in line with GAAP.
• Lead inventory and cost accounting including variances and landed costs.
• Perform variance and financial analysis, identify drivers and recommend actions.
• Manage cash flow, forecasting and the annual budget, including rolling cash flow.
• Oversee AP, AR, customer credit and collections; back up HR for payroll.
• Build and enforce internal controls and support ISO 9001 practices.
• Manage the accounting team's lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, training, reviews and compensation.

About the Role

Shippers Supply is a Minnesota manufacturer and wholesale distributor. We are hiring a hands-on Accounting Manager to own the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of our accounting operations, and to help the whole business run smarter.

This is a working management role. You will drive a fast, reliable month-end close, keep a clean and well-understood general ledger, and lead the accounting team to deliver results through the team. Just as important, you will translate the numbers into clear insight for leadership and for peers across the company, and you will keep finding better ways to run the department. We are looking for someone who comes to the table with solutions, not just problems: action-oriented, accountable, and comfortable presenting to leadership.

What You'll Do

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, and keep improving the timeline while improving data accuracy.
• Maintain a complete, accurate general ledger and deliver timely income statements, balance sheets, and cash-flow statements in line with GAAP.
• Lead inventory and cost accounting: inventory valuation, COGS, landed costs, scrap and WIP, and standard-versus-actual manufacturing variances.
• Run variance and financial analysis that drives decisions: identify the drivers, quantify the impact, and recommend corrective action.
• Manage cash flow, forecasting, and the annual budget, including a rolling cash-flow projection.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer credit, and collections; serve as backup to HR for bi-weekly payroll.
• Build and enforce internal controls, keep accounting SOPs current, and support ISO 9001 controlled-document practices.
• Own the full employee life cycle for the accounting team: hiring and separation decisions, onboarding, training, and work direction; performance reviews, coaching, and development; administering company policies and procedures; disciplinary action; and compensation recommendations.
• Manage the team's workload and deadlines across AP, AR, and billing, and build cross-training so the department has reliable backup.
• Partner with customer service, warehouse, production, purchasing, sales, service, HR, and operations to fix errors at the source.
• Champion continuous improvement, better use of technology, and metrics that connect the numbers to better operating decisions.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Finance or a related field considered).
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• 4 to 5+ years of hands-on general ledger and month-end close experience.
• 5+ years in manufacturing and/or wholesale distribution (transportation and logistics also relevant).
• 2+ years in cost accounting, including analysis of inventory, overhead, and direct labor.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and internal financial controls.
• Proficiency with a mid-market ERP used in manufacturing or distribution.
• 3+ years managing an accounting team, including direct supervision of staff.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to any audience.
• Strong problem solving, planning, and priority setting: scopes work accurately, drives to completion, and follows through.

Nice to Have

• CPA or CMA (not required for this role).
• Experience importing goods and managing landed costs.
• A track record of shortening a month-end close and automating manual processes.

Working Conditions

• On-site role in a normal office environment, working with phones, computers, and standard office equipment for much of the day.
• Comfortable spending time on the warehouse and production floor to partner with operations.
• Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.

Salary Transparency

The pay range for this position is $105,000-$125,000 per year. This role is eligible for an incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.Please note that the higher end of the pay range is reserved for candidates with extensive experience and qualifications that exceed the requirements of the role. Most new hires typically start at the beginning of the pay range, with opportunities for growth and increases based on performance and tenure.
