Shippers Supply Inc. in Golden Valley, MN, is seeking an Accounting Manager to own the integrity of accounting operations, lead a growing team, and translate numbers into actionable insights for leadership.

This hands-on management role drives month-end closes, ledger accuracy, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, 3+ years of people management, and strong manufacturing/distribution exposure, with GAAP proficiency and ERP

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
• 5+ years progressive accounting experience.
• 4–5+ years hands-on general ledger & month-end close experience.
• 5+ years in manufacturing and/or wholesale distribution (transportation and logistics also relevant).
• 2+ years cost accounting incl. inventory, overhead, direct labor.
• Solid GAAP understanding & internal controls.
• Proficient with a mid-market ERP used in manufacturing or distribution.
• 3+ years managing an accounting team; direct supervision of staff.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication; ability to explain financial information to any audience.
• Strong problem solving, planning, and priority setting; drives to completion.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end, quarter, and year-end close with improving timelines and data accuracy.
• Maintain complete, accurate general ledger and deliver income statements, balance sheets, and cash-flow statements per GAAP.
• Lead inventory and cost accounting: valuation, COGS, landed costs, scrap and WIP, variances.
• Run variance and financial analysis; identify drivers, quantify impact, and recommend actions.
• Manage cash flow, forecasting, and annual budget with rolling projections.
• Oversee AP, AR, customer credit, collections; backup HR for bi-weekly payroll.
• Build and enforce internal controls; keep SOPs current; support ISO 9001 practices.
• Own accounting team lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, training, performance reviews, coaching, policies, compensation decisions.
• Manage workload across AP, AR, and billing; build cross-training for backups.
• Partner with ops to fix errors at the source; champion automation and metrics.
