Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day property accounting activities for a residential real estate portfolio, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all transactions.
• Review property-level financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow) prior to submission.
• Lead and manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and review of key accounts.
• Supervise, mentor, and review the work of staff accountants, providing guidance and training.
• Maintain and optimize Yardi-based accounting processes, including system setups and reporting structures.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards.
• Collaborate with property management and leadership to explain financial results, variances, and trends.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and improve reporting accuracy and timeliness.

About the Role:

As Accounting Manager, you will oversee all property-level accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting and a timely month-end close for a residential real estate portfolio. You will manage and develop a team of accountants, refine processes, and partner with operations and leadership to provide clear, reliable financial insights that support business planning and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day property accounting activities for a residential real estate portfolio, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all transactions.
• Review property-level financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, prior to final submission.
• Lead and manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and review of key accounts.
• Supervise, mentor, and review the work of staff accountants, providing guidance, feedback, and training where needed.
• Maintain and optimise Yardi-based accounting processes, including system setups, property configurations, and reporting structures.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards within the real estate environment.
• Collaborate with property management and senior leadership to explain financial results, variances, and trends.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and improve reporting accuracy and timeliness.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience in residential real estate/property accounting, with direct responsibility for property-level financials.
• Strong working knowledge of Yardi, including general ledger, property management, and reporting modules.
• Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting property-level financial statements.
• Solid background managing month-end close and financial reporting processes in a real estate setting.
• Track record of supervising and mentoring accounting staff, including reviewing work for accuracy and compliance.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and general ledger systems, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, able to present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
• Experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany transactions in a real estate portfolio.
• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for residential properties.
• Background in implementing or enhancing Yardi workflows and custom reports.
• Exposure to audit preparation and coordination with external auditors.
• Knowledge of real estate tax considerations and CAM reconciliations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) preferred but not required, depending on experience.
• Formal training or coursework in real estate accounting or property management accounting is an advantage.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development in accounting, real estate, or financial systems.
