Job summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking an Accounting Intern to support ledger entries, reconciliations, and general accounting tasks. This student position is based in Albuquerque and offers exposure to Banner and nonprofit ledger software.

Ideal candidates are UNM students with accounting coursework, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. A campus-based, non-exempt internship with $13.50 per hour wage is offered.

Qualifications

• Freshman or sophomore status preferred.
• Must be a current UNM student enrolled for at least 6 credits.
• Major or coursework in accounting/finance/business administration or related field.
• Basic understanding of accounting/financial principles.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Clear, friendly communication; able to work independently and in a team.
• Willing to take initiative and assist with problem-solving.
• Comfort with Microsoft Office and basic computer programs.

Responsibilities

• Journal entry preparation and posting.
• Process and batch high volumes of cash receipts and deposits.
• Enter cash transactions in ledger and reconcile cash reports.
• Prepare spreadsheets for financial analysis.
• Data entry into Banner and nonprofit ledger software.
• Run queries for reports.
• Print Hyperion reports and query Banner.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial records per policy.
• Follow departmental policies and procedures.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
