Job summary

Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company in West Des Moines, IA is seeking an undergraduate Summer Internship for 2027. The paid program runs May 17–August 6, up to 40 hours per week, with potential to turn into full-time in the future.

We seek enrolled sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in Accounting, Finance or Business. May 2027 graduates are not eligible. Interns will assist with quarterly reporting, reconciliations and AP entries in a collaborative, on-site office environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university.
  • Majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • May 2027 graduates will not be eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and assists with the quarterly financial reporting process.
  • Assists with reconciling outstanding checks and unclaimed property.
  • Learns and assists with reinsurance accounting and related reporting.
  • Performs various account and cash reconciliations.
  • Assists with coding and entering accounts payable transactions.
  • Prepares and enters monthly journal entries.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines, IA) is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program. This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.

We are looking for currently-enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university, majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. (May 2027 graduates will not be eligible).

Skills: Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial concepts is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Learns and assists with the quarterly financial reporting process.
  • Assists with reconciling outstanding checks and unclaimed property.
  • Learns and assists with reinsurance accounting and related reporting.
  • Performs various account and cash reconciliations.
  • Assists with coding and entering accounts payable transactions.
  • Prepares and enters monthly journal entries.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
