Job summary

Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company in West Des Moines, IA is offering a paid 2027 Summer Internship Program for currently-enrolled undergraduates. The internship runs May 17 through August 6, up to 40 hours per week, with potential to become a full-time position.

The role focuses on QA testing, creating and updating test scripts, and building automated tests. Candidates should be CS or MIS majors with exposure to Java, SQL, and OOP concepts; on-site work only.

Qualifications

• Currently-enrolled undergraduate pursuing sophomore, junior or senior year in CS or MIS.
• May 2027 graduates not eligible.

Responsibilities

• Works with QA testers and development team to understand requirements and objectives for new or modified functionality.
• Creates new and updates existing test scripts based on business requirements and technical specs.
• Identifies bugs, reports issues, and re-tests to verify behavior.
• Builds and maintains automated tests using automation framework/tooling for functional, regression, and smoke tests.
• Interacts with IT department staff and follows IT processes and procedures.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines, IA) is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program.This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.

We are looking for currently-enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university, majoring in Computer Science or MIS; who has taken technical college-level courses. (May 2027 graduates will not be eligible).

Skills: Exposure to Java, SQL Queries, and Object-Oriented Programming concepts is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works with other experienced QA testers and the development team to understand the requirements, scope, and objectives for any new or modified functionality within the system.
• Creates new and updates existing test scripts, based upon the business requirements and technical specifications.
• Identifies bugs or unexpected behavior during testing, reports and documents issues found, and re-tests to satisfy expected behavior.
• Builds and maintains automated tests using automation framework/tooling in support of functional, regression, and smoke tests.
• Interacts and communicates with other IT department staff.
• Follows all IT department processes and procedures.
• Accomplishes other tasks and duties as assigned.
