The Scruggs Company in Valdosta, GA is seeking an Accounting Intern to support the CFO with accounts payable/receivable and payroll tasks. The role is fully onsite, 40 hours per week, with potential future locations across Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Report on project profitability to management using percent complete method
• Inform management of opportunities for additional project billings
• Prepare and enter journal entries with reclassifications and allocations
• Routinely analyze revenues and expenses for accurate recording
• Assist with preparation/review of financial statements and schedules per monthly close
• Ensure company policies and procedures are followed
• Perform audits to verify transactions
• Assist in compiling information for external auditors

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Intern is responsible for assisting the CFO with any tasks and projects needing help within the Finance department. This could include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll, in addition to supporting our Staff Accountants. This position is expected to be a 40-hour work schedule that is fully onsite. POTENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Report on project profitability to management utilizing percent complete method
• Report to management on any opportunities for additional project billings
• Prepare/enter journal entries which includes approved reclassification of expenses into/out of accounts, correcting entries, allocating expenditures, etc.
• Routinely analyze revenues and expenses to ensure appropriate recording
• Assist with preparation/review of financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule
• Ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to
• Perform audits on a regular basis to verify transactions
• Assist in compiling information for external auditors, as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and/or management
• Prior work experience preferred but not required
• Possess computer knowledge and experience with Excel.
• An understanding of accounting theory
