Job summary

The Scruggs Company, a Georgia construction leader, has an opening for a Project Engineer Intern across several locations in Georgia. Housing is provided if needed for selected candidates, and the role offers competitive pay and strong advancement potential.

You'll assist estimators, PMs, supers and foremen with securing and scheduling projects, while gaining hands-on experience in takeoffs, submittals, and costing. A relevant 4-year degree is highly preferred.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a 4-year engineering or construction-related degree is highly preferred.
• Strong computer skills with Excel proficiency and ability to read drawings.
• Familiarity with construction estimation and scheduling concepts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist estimators, PMs, supers and foremen in securing, managing and scheduling projects.
• Support safety adherence and plan work with material purchases.
• Assist with daily project duties, takeoffs and pricing for bids.
• Prepare submittals, material certifications and project records.
• Coordinate change orders and analyze cost implications with the team.

Job description

The Scruggs Company, a Georgia construction leader and part of Construction Partners, Inc., has an opening for a Project Engineer Intern in several locations across the state of Georgia. There are internships available in Hahira (Valdosta), Columbus, Auburn (NE Atlanta Metro), Waycross, and Cochran, Georgia. Housing will be provided, if needed, to selected candidates.

What you will do:

Assist Estimators, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen in securing, managing, and scheduling for various types of construction projects.

• Understand, support, and adhere to Scruggs safety requirements; observe and correct violations as they arise on project sites
• Plan work and purchase materials with safety in mind
• Assist Project Manager with daily project duties
• Work with Estimators on daily estimating duties
• Perform takeoffs and work with subcontractors and vendors on pricing for bids
• Prepare and track all necessary submittals
• Obtain required material certifications
• Maintain project files, current drawings, and production records
• Assist the preparation and submittal of all documentation and records required for change orders
• Assist in the analysis of cost for extra work.
• Assist Project Manager in overall coordination of project including subcontractors
• Build and maintain positive subcontractor relationships
• Identify, pursue and recover fair compensation for changes in scope and optimize cash flow

What you will need:

• Pursuing a 4-year engineering degree, construction management degree, or a different degree with construction or manufacturing experience highly preferred
• General knowledge of computer software required; Excel expertise highly preferred
• Familiarity with HCSS products (HeavyJob and HeavyBid) or other construction systems preferred
• Experience with project planning, scheduling, and estimating preferred
• Ability to prepare subcontractor scopes of work
• Familiarity with pricing, purchasing, and preparation of purchase orders for materials and equipment
• Ability to read and understand drawings
• A good sense of humor and willingness to contribute to a positive work culture
