Job summary

The Scruggs Company is seeking a high-potential Accounting Intern to support the CFO and Finance team at our Valdosta corporate office. This 40-hour, fully onsite internship offers exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, with opportunities for career growth within Georgia operations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and/or management.
• Prior work experience is preferred but not required.
• Strong computer skills with Excel.

Responsibilities

• Report project profitability to management using percent complete method.
• Identify opportunities for additional project billings.
• Prepare and enter journal entries, including reclassifications.
• Analyze revenues and expenses for accurate recording.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing financial statements and schedules.
• Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
• Participate in audits and verify transactions.
• Support external auditors with requested information.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Intern is responsible for assisting the CFO with any tasks and projects needing help within the Finance department. This could include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll, in addition to supporting our Staff Accountants. This position is expected to be a 40-hour work schedule that is fully onsite. POTENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Report on project profitability to management utilizing percent complete method
• Report to management on any opportunities for additional project billings
• Prepare/enter journal entries which includes approved reclassification of expenses into/out of accounts, correcting entries, allocating expenditures, etc.
• Routinely analyze revenues and expenses to ensure appropriate recording
• Assist with preparation/review of financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule
• Ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to
• Perform audits on a regular basis to verify transactions
• Assist in compiling information for external auditors, as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and/or management
• Prior work experience preferred but not required
