Job summary

Clay is seeking an Accounting Engineer to own core accounting operations, build and optimize finance systems, and design AI-driven automation workflows. You will participate in cross-functional projects with product and GTM analytics, impacting the broader organization.

The role combines accounting expertise with system modernization, data integrity, and strategic partnerships across finance, product, and operations to scale Clay's finance function.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience in startup or public accounting settings.
• Hands-on operational accounting: close processes, reconciliations, data issues.
• Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and validation.
• Experience implementing or administering a finance system or ERP.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to accelerate accounting work.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly close end-to-end, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Own Clay's ERP and connected finance systems, including integrations and data pipelines.
• Build AI-powered workflows to automate reconciliations and close tasks; write SQL for data validation.
• Partner with GTM, Product, and Operations on finance-adjacent projects and support FP&A.
