Job summary

Women Helping Women in Cincinnati, OH, is seeking an Accounting Director to lead day-to-day financial operations, ensure GAAP compliance, oversee grant accounting and internal controls, and serve as the CFO’s operational partner.

You will lead the accounting team, deliver timely financial statements and grant reports, drive process improvements, and support mission impact with accurate, transparent financial information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 7–10 years progressive accounting experience.
  • 3–5 years supervisory experience.
  • Experience with federal and state grant accounting and compliance.
  • Experience managing annual audits.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to efficiently create, edit, analyze, and manage financial documents and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

What We’re Looking For

The Accounting Directoris responsible forthe day-to-day financial operations of WHWand serves as the operational leader of the Accounting Department. Working closely with the CFO, this position ensures the integrity of the organization's financial records, oversees accounting operations, strengthens internal controls, and ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance, grant requirements, and nonprofit financial best practices.

The Accounting Director provides leadership to the accounting teamand volunteerswhile producingtimelyandaccuratefinancial information that supports organizational decision-making and mission impact. This role serves as the CFO's primary operational partner and acts on behalf of the CFO in accounting matters whenappropriate.

What You Will Be Responsible For

About You
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience withfederal and state grant accountingand compliance.
  • Experience managing annual audits.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to efficiently create, edit, analyze, and manage financial documents and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience with Sage,MIPor similar nonprofit accountingsoftware.
  • Financial Integrity: Maintainsaccurate, ethical, and transparent financial records while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Attention to Detail: Produces accurate, complete, and timely work by carefully reviewing financial information and identifying discrepancies before they become issues.
  • Strategic Thinking: Applies financial knowledge and analysis to support organizational goals, improve decision-making, and anticipate future financial needs.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies issues, analyzes root causes, and implements practical, effective solutions to improve financial operations and compliance.
  • Team Leadership: Provides clear direction, coaching, and support to develop staff, promote accountability, and foster a collaborative, high-performing team.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluates and enhances financial processes, internal controls, and technology to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.

Compensation

The compensation range for this salaried, exempt opportunity is $75K-$90K. The target compensation range is subject to multiple factors including education and experience.
