Job summary

Houston Area Women's Center, Inc. is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee all general ledger accounting, grant and contribution recognition, and accruals. You will assist the Controller in daily financial operations, with experience in project analysis and revenue recognition per GAAP.

This full-time role follows a hybrid schedule, with potential travel as needed. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and at least three years in financial reporting and

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in financial reporting and general ledger.
  • Minimum three years of experience leading a team with direct reports.
  • Intermediate proficiency with ERP and GL systems and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, cash management, revenue recognition, and fixed assets.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and GAAP-compliant management reports.
  • Analyze financial results to inform operational and strategic decisions.
  • Monitor cash flow and support treasury and liquidity management.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable; assist with payroll and grant allocations.
  • Coordinate annual financial audits and regulatory reporting; support IRS Forms 990 and 5500.

Every day we continue to embed diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity in everything we do as we provide service to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.## Qualifications**The Requirements We are Seeking:*** Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited educational institution.* A minimum of three years of experience in financial reporting and general ledger.* A minimum of three years of experience leading a team with direct reports.* Intermediate proficiency with ERP and GL systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)**What you Deliver in this role:*** You will supervise daily accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts receivable, cash management, revenue recognition, and fixed assets.* You will lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.* You will review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.* You will prepare monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports in accordance with GAAP.* You will analyze financial results and provide insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.* You will monitor cash flow and support treasury and liquidity management.* You will serve as the backup approver for the Accounts Payable invoice approval process.* You will oversee accounts receivable, monitor collections, and improve cash conversion* You will review payroll and collaborate with Human Resources and Grants to ensure accurate payroll processing and grant allocations.* You will maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, and federal and state regulations.* You will coordinate annual financial audit, Single Audit, and regulatory reporting, including audit schedules, PBC requests, and support for IRS Forms 990 and 5500.* You will supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff while fostering accountability and continuous improvement.* You will improve accounting processes, maintain financial systems, and support automation and system enhancements.* You will develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and process documentation.* You will support the Controller and CFO with budgeting, financial analysis, special projects, and other strategic initiatives.* Other duties/projects may be assigned.**What Skills and Assets you bring, and more:*** Computer savvy and able to learn new applications and systems quickly.* Strong data-entry skills.* Excellent attention to details* Demonstration of professional objectivity and appreciation for confidential information* Ability to follow instructions and to adhere to policies and procedures* Ability to prioritize tasks to meet individual and team deadlines* Has a growth mindset and is a good team player* Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.When you work here at HAWC you make an impact not just in the lives of the survivors and the people you help, but also make an impact in our own lives and our community.
