POSITION OVERVIEW:

Jersey Battered Women’s Service (JBWS) is seeking an experienced and analytical Senior Accountant & Financial Analyst to play a key role in the organization’s financial management and strategic planning efforts. This position offers an opportunity to perform critical accounting and financial reporting functions while partnering with executive leadership to support the agency’s mission and long‑term growth. The Senior Accountant will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations, manage month‑end and year‑end close processes, perform financial analysis, develop budgets and forecasts, monitor grant funding and compliance, and provide meaningful financial insights to support organizational decision‑making. This role serves as a trusted business partner to leadership, program managers, and external stakeholders while helping ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Perform month‑end and year‑end close processes, including account reconciliations, analysis, and journal entry preparation.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, management reports, and Board reporting packages.
  • Develop and maintain agency‑wide and program‑level financial reports, including profit and loss statements, variance analyses, dashboards, and key performance metrics.
  • Analyze financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to leadership based on financial and operational data.
  • Prepare financial reports and reimbursement requests for federal, state, county, and private grant funding sources.
  • Ensure accurate grant expenditure tracking, compliance monitoring, and financial transparency.
  • Support annual external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and coordinating with auditors.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Planning
  • Collaborate with CFO in preparation of the annual operating budget process.
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts and long‑range financial projections.
  • Develop grant budgets and financial models to support funding applications and contract proposals.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual budget‑to‑actual analyses.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives and organizational leadership meetings.
Accounting Operations & Collaboration
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial records and accounting processes.
  • Collaborate closely with program leadership to monitor spending and ensure alignment with grant requirements and approved budgets.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, internal controls, and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Participate in agency events and organizational initiatives that support employee engagement and wellness.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in managing federal, state and local grants.
  • Strong foundation in general accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliation, and month‑end close.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and financial compliance requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to work across teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS

Flexible full‑time hybrid schedule available upon satisfactory completion of probationary period.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary range $75,000 – $80,000 in addition to a generous benefits package including an employee wellness program, medical, dental, vision, life, 403B and generous paid time off package.
