Overview

Accounting Assistant Drive Operational Excellence. Ashurst Perkins Coie is seeking a collaborative, detail‑oriented Accounting Assistant to join the finance team and help deliver an exceptional employee experience. The role administers the preparation of billing statements for the firm’s top-tier clients and serves as a liaison to resolve billing issues in an accurate and timely manner. The position maintains confidentiality of client matter issues, collects outstanding accounts, and prepares financial reports as necessary.

What You'll Do
  • CLIENT ACCOUNTING FUNCTIONS
    • Manage the full-cycle billing process for a diverse client portfolio, ensuring accurate invoice preparation, billing adjustments, and compliance with firm policies and client Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs).
    • Review billing narratives, validate time entries and expenses, and resolve discrepancies to maximize billing accuracy and efficiency.
    • Process electronic invoices, rates, budgets, and accruals while partnering with attorneys, clients, and vendors to resolve billing issues and invoice rejections.
    • Oversee accounts receivable and collections by tracking outstanding balances, maintaining accurate billing records, and driving timely payment resolution.
  • REPORTING/ANALYSIS FUNCTIONS
    • Develop and deliver insightful financial and operational reports, dashboards, and executive-level analytics that support strategic decision‑making for clients, firm leadership, and key committees.
    • Leverage advanced reporting tools, spreadsheets, databases, and data visualization software to analyze trends, forecast financial performance, and transform complex data into actionable business intelligence.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS
    • Manage new client and matter intake by reviewing records for accuracy and ensuring seamless onboarding and processing.
    • Partner with attorneys on high-priority projects and client initiatives, representing the billing function in client meetings as needed.
    • Collaborate with the Pricing team to develop billing rates, maintain timekeeper data, and support client pricing strategies with accurate, timely information.
What You'll Bring
  • BA degree required with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant administrative and general billing experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of timekeeping, accounts payable/receivable, and collection procedures.
  • Understanding of the legal environment and billing procedures; familiarity with insurance work is a plus.
  • Strong command of English — spelling, grammar, punctuation, form, and style.
  • Research and analytical skills for problem-solving and the ability to recommend solutions to complex problems.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Adobe software; experience with 3E is a plus. Familiarity with e-billing platforms (e.g., Legal Tracker, TyMetrix 360, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
