Job Description: Legal Practice Assistant

In this role, the Legal Practice Assistant (”LPA”) provides high-level administrative and legal support with minimal supervision, serving as a trusted partner to attorneys and clients. By anticipating needs, delivering exceptional service, and working seamlessly across Firm departments and Shared Services teams, the LPA helps advance the Firm’s strategic goal of strengthening and expanding client relationships while ensuring legal work is delivered with excellence, consistency, and efficiency. As a valued member of the Ashurst Perkins Coie Business Professionals team, the LPA also represents the Firm’s reputation and culture through the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

What You’ll Do

Administrative Assistance Serve as a proactive partner to attorneys, managing calendars, priorities, deadlines, meetings, travel, and communications with precision. Coordinate meetings, client materials, mail, deliveries, and related logistics to keep matters moving seamlessly. Manage attorney email and client communications as directed, ensuring timely and professional follow-through. Provide technical guidance and stay current on Firm technology, tools, and resources. Represent attorneys, practice groups, and the Firm with professionalism and exceptional client service. Partner with Travel Services and other Shared Services teams to coordinate efficient, policy-compliant travel.

Legal Support Deliver sophisticated legal and administrative support that drives exceptional client service and high-quality work product. Anticipate attorney needs, monitor workloads/caseloads, and proactively track deadlines, tasks, and follow-up. Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and business professionals to coordinate client matters and ensure timely, accurate status reporting. Draft, format, edit, redline, and proofread legal documents and correspondence. Maintain accurate, organized, and accessible electronic files and records. Perform practice-specific responsibilities outlined in applicable LPA leveling guidelines.

Business Development Support attorneys in achieving client relationship and business development goals. Maintain accurate CRM data, tracking client relationships, key contacts, touchpoints, and opportunities. Coordinate client events, conferences, dinners, networking activities, and follow-up initiatives that strengthen relationships and elevate the Firm’s profile. Coordinate client gifts and holiday outreach. Support proposals, pitches, Foundation grant requests, attorney bios, CLE materials, and conference presentations.

Work to Cash Support end-to-end Work to Cash activities, including client intake, time entry, proformas, billing, invoices, receivables, and compliance with client billing guidelines. Process accounting and financial documents, including check requests, expense reports, professional corporation, and trust-related documents.

Firm & Team Excellence

Serve as a collaborative, resourceful member of the LPA team through cross-training, knowledge sharing, and strong partnerships across the Firm. Maintain current attorney reference materials and support the seamless integration of new Partners and Senior Counsel. Leverage workflow tools, Firm resources, and Shared Services to streamline work, optimize workloads, and deliver solutions efficiently. Apply critical thinking to anticipate needs, identify best practices, solve problems, and continuously improve processes. Complete required LPA certifications and professional development within established timelines. Champion the Firm’s service values—impact, simplicity, and reliability—in every interaction. Uphold Firm policies, confidentiality, professionalism, security, attendance, and workplace standards. Provide timely communication regarding workload, schedule changes, and significant issues. Support designated office needs, including Notary Public services, Reception Desk, and Hospitality.

What You’ll Bring

Qualifications & Core Competencies Strong command of legal terminology, procedures, and practice-specific requirements, with working knowledge of state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Exceptional communication and writing skills, with outstanding command of English, grammar, punctuation, and style. Highly organized and detail-driven, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple deadlines, and independently triage communications. Proactive, resourceful problem-solver with sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Skilled at building effective relationships and collaborating across attorneys, teams, and operational groups. Typing speed of 75 WPM with a high degree of accuracy. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and adaptability to client-specific technologies and platforms. Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic. Exercises sound discretion and maintains the highest standards of confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred. Five-plus years of administrative and legal experience in a law firm, legal department, or professional services environment. Three-plus years supporting executives, senior-level Partners, or comparable leaders. Experience with ECVC and/or RELU.

This position may be filled in the following location. The listed compensation range reflects the typical pay for this role, though it is rare for new hires to receive an offer at the top of the range. Actual compensation may vary depending on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity. San Francisco Bay Area compensation range: $83,350 to $150,030 annually
