Job summary

State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Accountant III to join the Disbursements Management Unit in Tallahassee. The role focuses on audit, classification, and vouchering of obligations, ensuring GAAP compliance and state policy adherence.

The position requires at least three years of related accounting experience, with state rules guiding pre-audit, posting and reconciliation tasks, and communication with DEP staff and vendors.

Qualifications

• At least three years of verifiable related experience in accounting or governmental accounting.
• Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
• A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

Responsibilities

• GAAP-based accounting and reconciliation of revenue, disbursements, expenditures and related activity.
• Pre-audit and payment processing of expenditures including purchasing card transactions and reimbursements.
• Verify account codes, supporting documentation and authorization signatures for voucher processing.
• Communicate with DEP personnel and vendors to resolve discrepancies and respond to inquiries.
• Audit documentation to ensure vouchers are properly posted and fulfill audit requirements.
• Assist with researching financial transactions and correcting errors in the state financial system.
• Perform monthly, quarterly and yearly compliance reviews of transactions and report discrepancies.
