About the Agency
The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. This position is available in the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services’ Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Finance Division, and will report directly to the VR Finance Director. Responsibilities will involve, but not be limited to: entering and reviewing journal entries; handling the agency’s Accounts Receivable activity; performing the periodic draw of funding from our various non-state funding sources; preparing monthly bank reconciliations; assisting with the management of our agency’s petty cash accounts; processing travel reimbursements through the state’s SPAHRS payment system; and compiling and reporting financial information for agency management, vendors, and other parties as needed. The candidate must be capable of applying basic accounting theory in reviewing fiscal transactions and in interpreting financial data, and they would be expected to display an understanding of working with a number of fund types, revenue sources, and coding structures. Additionally, this position requires the utilization of analytical abilities to appropriately identify, resolve, and limit the risk of errors.

Employee would be expected to be organized, communicate effectively, and have a basic understanding of finance/accounting practices. They should also have a penchant for being timely and meeting deadlines, and should display a willingness to learn, remain positive, and be a team player.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience. Hiring agency prefers experience with the state of Mississippi’s MAGIC and SPAHRS accounting systems, and experience with Microsoft Office products, namely Excel and Word. Candidate should also have a general knowledge of computers and other computer-type equipment used in the course of day-to-day business.
