Job summary

County of Hawai‘i seeks a professional accountant to manage fiscal operations within Environmental Management's Business Services Division in Hilo. The work includes maintaining ledgers, preparing financial statements, and assisting with budget development.

Starting salary is based on qualifications; appointment may be permanent or temporary, with potential conversion. Applicants must have a degree and accounting coursework, and at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Twelve semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing courses.
• One year of professional accounting or auditing experience.
• Demonstrated supervisory aptitude as applicable to the position.

Responsibilities

• Maintains expenditure, object, cost, and control ledgers, registers, journals, and other records required in a fiscal operation.
• Participates in collection, compilation, classification, evaluation, and reporting of fiscal data.
• Classifies, codes, and posts to proper accounts and funds, accounting documents covering encumbrances, expenditures, and revenues.
• Oversees payroll processing for the department; prepares related labor reports, e.g., job costing.
• Prepares and processes personnel documents and transactions involving personnel changes, benefits, etc.; provides information on personnel laws, rules, and collective bargaining provisions.
