Job summary

Hemic in Honolulu, HI is seeking an Accountant I to manage day-to-day accounting, prepare journal entries, and support financial reporting in line with GAAP.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or 2+ years of GAAP experience, proficiency with Microsoft 365, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

We offer a competitive salary range of $50,000 to $65,000 per year, flexible PTO, and a supportive team focused on professional growth.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review daily accounting transactions for accuracy and adherence to policy.
  • Prepare journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Analyze budget variances and report findings.
  • Suggest process improvements to strengthen internal controls.
  • Document/update accounting procedures and standards.
  • Support other teams and external partners with accounting needs.
  • Participate in meetings and training programs; pursue self-development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Why our Accountant I is Important:

Our Accounting & Finance Department monitors and maintains the Company’s financial resources to maximize profitability. This role performs day-to-day operational duties, financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, and accounting research and analysis. In addition, our Accountant assists the team to ensure that all deliverables comply with company policies and accounting standards.

  • Review daily accounting transactions, including cash receipts and disbursements, for accuracy and adherence to company policies, ensuring timely review and processing of transactions.
  • Prepare journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations, along with supporting work papers, for approval and postings.
  • Review and analyze budget variances.
  • Suggest process improvement initiatives and provide solutions to enhance current processes wherever possible, focusing on effective internal controls.
  • Document/update accounting procedures and process standards.
  • Support other internal teams and external partners with their accounting-related and operational needs.
  • Participate in departmental/functional meetings and training programs. Utilize self-development tools and resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or comparable experience) and/or 2+ years in accounting using GAAP with statutory accounting procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, methods, theories, practices, and equipment including data processing programs and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, including identifying and analyzing internal controls.
  • Able to effectively communicate and build effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Enthusiastic learner with the desire and ability to learn and understand why you are doing things as opposed to merely following steps to complete.
  • Can meet required timelines and deadlines.
  • Collaborative and supportive team member. Works effectively with cross-functional team members within the company.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
