Our client is seeking an Accountant for an exciting contract to hire opportunity. Under supervision of the District Business Manager, the Accountant will perform complex and responsible accounting work; assists with budget preparation and fiscal matters; and performs related work as required.
Pay: $32.00 - $39.00/hr DUTIES:
- Maintains journals and the general ledger for all funds.
- Reconciles various fiscal accounting reports.
- Prepares the monthly cash report.
- Prepares adjusting and closing entries and assists with the annual closing of the books.
- Prepares accounting and budget reports.
- Investigates discrepancies and prepares necessary journal entries.
- Initiates journal entries for budget, financial reporting, direct support program costs and transfers, accruals, and revisions.
- Develops statistical reports as requested by district management.
- Calculates district revenue for budget purposes.
- Analyzes income and expenditure records as required.
- Maintains district attendance records and prepares county and state attendance reports.
- Maintains an inventory of fixed assets.
- Implements accounting changes needed to meet new state reporting requirements and revisions to the California School Accounting Manual.
- Independently perform a wide variety of complex budgeting and accounting tasks.
- Assist with and make recommendations regarding fiscal programs, including accounting and budgeting.
- Interpret laws, rules, and regulations affecting district business operations.
- Develop and maintain accounting systems and records.
- Learn appropriate software, including the district financial system, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
- Speak and write effectively.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirments
- 3+ years of hands-on Governmental fund accounting, including budgeting practices and methods, using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Laws, rules, and regulations governing school district business operations and activities.
- Computer spreadsheets, word processing, and other software programs.
- Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment.
- Independently perform a wide variety of complex budgeting and accounting tasks.
- Assist with and make recommendations regarding fiscal programs, including accounting and budgeting.
- Interpret laws, rules, and regulations affecting district business operations.
- Develop and maintain accounting systems and records.
- Learn appropriate software, including the district financial system, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
- Speak and write effectively.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Demonstrated knowledge gained through training and/or experience in governmental fund accounting, including budgeting practices and methods, using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); or
- Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.
