Job summary

LHH in the Sacramento area seeks a Staff Accountant to join its Finance & Accounting team. The role focuses on general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close in a collaborative environment.

Reporting to Finance leadership, you’ll provide backup for AP/AR and contribute to process improvements while upholding GAAP and accuracy across financial records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 1–2+ years of Staff Accountant or progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including Pivot Tables and Lookups.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze monthly bank reconciliations for operating and reserve accounts.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items and account variances.
• Prepare, review, and post journal entries including accruals, allocations, and adjustments.
• Perform account reconciliations and support month-end and year-end close activities.
• Analyze general ledger activity to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper classification.
• Identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement and communicate findings to leadership.
• Assist with external audit requests and supporting schedules.
• Support continuous improvement efforts related to accounting processes and internal controls.
• Provide backup coverage for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
• Collaborate across departments and respond to financial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.

Position Summary

Reporting to Finance leadership, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records through bank reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis, and month-end close activities. This position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies independently.

The Staff Accountant will also provide backup support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as needed.

• Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
• Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including Pivot Tables and Lookups
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred:

• Accounting or Finance degree from a reputable university
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or similar platforms
• Experience supporting month-end close processes
