Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing variance explanations for income statement and balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with annual budget process and forecast revisions.
• Investigate unusual transactions and prepare reclassifications or corrections.
• Support audits and compliance documentation.
• Assist with quarterly accrual certification and statutory reporting.

The position supports the integrity and accuracy of accounting information by recording, verifying, reconciling, and analyzing transactions. It contributes to the daily operations of the Insurance Accounting group, including monitoring accounting interfaces and supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes. This role requires attention to detail and effective collaboration across multiple teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyze accounting transactions for the Insurance business entities: Popular Insurance, Popular Risk Services, Popular Life Re, and Popular Re.
• Prepare and record daily and month-end journal entries, including accruals, intercompany transactions, and cash-related entries, in the General Ledger (S/4HANA).
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of internal accounting procedures, in accordance with organizational requirements.
• Assist in preparing variance explanations for income statement and balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with the annual budget process and forecast revisions.
• Investigate unusual transactions and account discrepancies, and prepare or recommend reclassifications, adjustments, or corrections as needed.
• Provide documentation and accounting support for internal and external audits and other risk or compliance requirements.
• Assist with the quarterly accrual certification process.
• Prepare quarterly and annual journal entries to support statutory financial reporting.
• Coordinate and document the unit’s annual inventory process.
• Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives, as needed

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

Experience

Minimum of one year of experience performing general accounting or full-cycle accounting activities.

Other Qualifications

• Working knowledge of accounting principles, journal entries, account reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to evaluate financial information.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow up on multiple tasks.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize, analyze, and validate accounting data.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Fully bilingual (English and Spanish), both oral and written, preferred.
