Job summary

New River Community and Technical College seeks a knowledgeable Student Disability Services Advisor to lead coordination of disability-related accommodations and advance accessibility across the College’s programs and learning environments.

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the advisor will evaluate accommodation requests, provide direct student support, and partner with faculty and information technology to promote accessible teaching and learning while ensuring compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Special Education, Counseling, Rehabilitation Services, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience working with students or adults with disabilities in an educational, counseling, rehabilitation, or related environment.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between College locations.

Responsibilities

• Meet individually with students, in person or virtually, to assess disability-related needs and determine appropriate academic accommodations, auxiliary aids, and services.
• Review disability documentation in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements to evaluate eligibility for services and support accommodation decisions.
• Develop individualized accommodation letters based on documentation, student interviews, and assessment of appropriate accommodations.
• Respond to daily accommodation requests, questions, and emerging student needs in a timely, professional manner.
• Conduct follow-up meetings to evaluate effectiveness of accommodations and revise plans as needed.
• Maintain accurate, confidential student records and case notes.
