Job summary

The Access Services Manager at Harvard Library leads operations and staff at the Monroe Gutman Library, the Ernst Mayr Library, and the Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library. It requires supervising staff, overseeing circulation, reserves, and access services, with autonomy and strong judgment.

The role is a 1-year term-limited position with potential for renewal; regular hours are Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm, with possible calendar-based changes.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS or equivalent education or work experience required.
• Minimum 3 years of academic library experience with a strong public service orientation.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience at GLAM or related organization.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and antiracism.
• Ability to manage projects and collaborate across library units.

Responsibilities

• Lead, direct, and supervise daily Access Services operations at assigned libraries.
• Oversee circulation desk services, reserves, and stacks management; ensure policy compliance and service quality.
• Coordinate staff development, performance management, and succession planning with the Associate Director.
• Maintain regular communication on team performance, staffing, and risks; escalate issues as needed.
• Collaborate across library units and participate in the Access Services Extended Leadership Team (ELT).
