Job summary

Harvard University’s Frances Loeb Library is seeking a full-time, one-year term Access Services staff member to support circulation, reference, and various access services across Harvard Library.

The role involves supervising student workers, managing schedules, coordinating sales of publications, and ensuring high-quality patron service, with occasional evenings and non-standard hours as needed to cover service points at semester starts.

Qualifications

• Primary areas of responsibility include managing student workers, overseeing circulation activities, and assisting with reference and information services.
• Oversees publications sales, stacks and collections maintenance, and resource sharing and course reserves services.
• Incumbent carries out work independently with decisions consulted with the manager.

Responsibilities

• Interviews and selects Access Services student employees.
• Develops and maintains the schedule for students at the circulation desk.
• Performs all student training and plans work operations for student employees.
• Assists with student payroll and payroll communications.
• Checks items out to patrons, explains loan periods and fines, and assists with retrieving materials.
• Provides basic reference help in HOLLIS and related resources; triages questions and routes complex queries.
• Oversees retail sales of GSD publications and coordinates inventory information.
• Collects data on service usage, assists with opening/closing and maintains security measures.
• Processes interlibrary deliveries and supports course reserves and digital content delivery.
• Attends Loeb Library staff meetings and collaborates with Research & Teaching, Collections, and Administrative Teams.
