Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking an ALS Electronics Installation and Fabrication Technologist to provide expert support for electronics fabrication, installation, testing, and maintenance in an accelerator setting. You will work with engineers and technicians to fabricate hardware, install cabling, and calibrate systems to meet performance specs.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, schematics interpretation, and safety compliance in a specialized research environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of related experience in electronics field.
• Strong understanding of electronics theory, electro-mechanical principles, and math.
• Ability to interpret complex schematics and manuals.
• Experience using complex test equipment and appropriate hand/power tools.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and component layout drawings.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and install electronics hardware including chassis, boards, cables, and racks.
• Support accelerator operations, shutdowns, upgrades, and maintenance projects.
• Troubleshoot and repair electronics; perform measurements and tests to verify performance.
• Read schematics and layout diagrams; select components and manufacturing approaches.
• Install, test, calibrate, and maintain electronic systems in lab and accelerator environments.
• Operate oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal and test generators, and network analyzers.
• Identify malfunctions and implement corrective actions with minimal supervision.
• Follow safety standards and lab policies; participate in safety reviews.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and electronics coordinators on product documentation and scheduling.
