Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Advanced Light Source (ALS) division seeks an Electronics Installation and Fabrication Technologist to provide technical support for design, fabrication, installation, testing and maintenance of electronic systems in an accelerator environment.

You will fabricate and install hardware, read schematics, use test equipment, troubleshoot, and ensure compliance with safety and lab standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of related experience working in electronics.
• Substantial understanding of electronics theory and math; ability to use complex test equipment and hand/power tools.
• Ability to interpret complex schematics and manuals; read layouts and wiring diagrams.
• Experience safely operating oscilloscope, multimeter, function generators and similar test gear.
• Ability to troubleshoot, calibrate, repair and maintain electronic systems in lab environments.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and install electronics hardware including chassis, boards, cables, racks and cabling systems.
• Support accelerator operations, shutdowns, upgrades, and maintenance projects.
• Respond to operational needs and troubleshoot accelerator or beamline systems.
• Use standard electronic test equipment and diagnose malfunctions to corrective actions.
• Read schematics, parts lists, and diagrams; follow instructions and standards.
• Ensure compliance with Lab safety, electrical codes, and engineering procedures.
• Participate in safety reviews and lab-wide safety practices.
