Job summary

Weber State University is seeking an Academic Year Math Tutor to support Upward Bound students with algebra and calculus concepts during the school year. Sessions run Saturdays 9:00 am–12:00 pm and by appointment, with additional weekly support as requested.

This is a pooled, hourly position aimed at helping students stay on track and prepare for college math coursework. The ideal candidate is enrolled in a post-secondary program in a relevant math field and has tutoring or mentoring experience

• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program with a major in mathematics or a related field.
• Experience tutoring or mentoring high school students.

Responsibilities

• Provide math tutoring to Upward Bound students.
• Offer sessions Saturdays 9:00 am–12:00 pm and additional help by appointment.
• Contribute to a pooled hiring process for future openings.

Job Summary/Basic Function

Provide math tutoring to Upward Bound high school students during the academic year, Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and by appointment throughout the week, as requested by students. May Occasionally implement grade-level specific college preparatory math activities and lessons. This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified

Required Qualifications

Involved in a post-secondary institution with a major in the pertinent academic discipline or evidence of equivalent knowledge and/or experience. Experience in tutoring, mentoring, and/or community service with high school level students.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate of TRIO program or experience in overcoming the challenges and/or circumstances similar to those of the target population.
