Job summary

Weber State University invites applications for an Academic Year Science Tutor to support Upward Bound high school students in Ogden, UT. The role is hourly/work-study, 3–5 hours per week, about 9 months per year, with Saturday sessions 9:00 am–12:00 pm and additional weekday appointments as needed.

Applicants should have major in a relevant science field or equivalent knowledge and experience, tutoring or mentoring youth. A TRIO program background is preferred; background check is required.

Qualifications

• Must have experience tutoring or mentoring high school students.
• Experience with Upward Bound programs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide science tutoring to Upward Bound students.

Job Summary/Basic Function

Provide science tutoring to Upward Bound high school students during the academic year, Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and by appointment throughout the week, as requested by students. May Occasionally implement grade-level specific college preparatory science activities and lessons.

• This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified

Required Qualifications

Involved in a post-secondary institution with a major in the pertinent academic discipline or evidence of equivalent knowledge and/or experience.

Experience in tutoring, mentoring, and/or community service with high school level students.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate of TRIO program or experience in overcoming the challenges and/or circumstances similar to those of the target population.
