Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Serve as first point of contact for customers and visitors.
  • Manage front office processes and office email/voicemail.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Direct inquiries to appropriate staff and resources.
  • Assist with orientation preparations and end-of-term processes.
  • Support registration tasks such as holdslifting and overrides.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student workers.

Department First-Year Advising Compensation $18.84 Hourly

General Description/Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of the Academic Support Specialist will be to provide administrative support to students, faculty and staff to address individual needs including challenges. This individual will help to support students through referral to appropriate campus resources and through collaboration with other support units to ensure timely and effective assistance.

Job Function
  • Provides customer service to incoming customers as the first point of contact
  • Manages front office processes
  • Provides one-on-one assistance in person, via telephone, and e-mail
  • Manages the Office email inboxes and voicemail boxes
  • Directs student inquires appropriately and efficiently
  • Assists the Director/Associate and Assistant Director and Advising Staff with organizing and preparing for New Student Orientations
  • Assists with End of Term processes as determined by the Advising Leadership team
  • Under the direction of the Advising Director, assists with registration functions such as lifting holds, providing registration overrides
  • Hires, trains, schedules and manages student workers
  • Will supervise student assistant staff.
Marginal Functions
  • Must be able to work on the occasional Saturday to assist/participate in university events.
  • During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or a high school diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced customer service setting preferred
  • Always maintains a professional demeanor
  • Higher education experience preferred but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both spoken and written) required
  • Ability to maintain calm in a somewhat stressful environment
  • Strong organization skills
  • Comfortable learning new technology
  • Ability to learn new information through training and provide accurate information in answering inquiries via phone and email
  • Must be able to perform processing and work tasks.
