Job summary

Job description

Academic Support Specialist
Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this position is to assist students, using a developmental model, with developing the knowledge, skills, and personal accountability needed to explore their academic and co‑curricular options, evaluate and track their own progress toward graduation, access support and enrichment services, and understand and follow university policies and timelines. The position coordinates and teaches University Studies courses, provides targeted academic counseling to first‑time freshmen who struggled during their first semester at the university, and addresses the general advising, registration, and enrollment needs of Fayetteville State University students to increase retention and graduation rates. The position also serves as a member of the Bronco Boost Summer Bridge Program leadership team.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • The successful candidate must have a master's degree with specific training, coursework, and/or experience in higher education, counseling, or an education related field.
  • Must have experience working with student success programs in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Requires the ability to use a personal computer to complete duties and knowledge of Microsoft Office products (WORD, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as other related student management Software.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; be able to manage a wide variety of records, files, and reports.
  • Must have personal and professional attributes to include punctuality, diligence, commitment, integrity, teamwork, and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three to five years' experience advising community college and/or university students, particularly exploratory/undecided students.
