Job summary

Qualifications

  • Address general advising, registration, and enrollment needs to increase retention and graduation rates.
  • Possibly assign up to two UNIV seminar courses as needed.
  • Occasionally work after 5:00 pm or on weekends during peak periods.

Primary Purpose of the Organization:


The Bronco One Stop is a centralized space where students can access standard services to help them navigate Fayetteville State University. The goal of the Bronco One Stop is to enhance the student experience by simplifying the application process, managing academic records, handling financial aid, making payments, consulting with an advisor to register for classes, seeking assistance with degree planning, receiving academic support, and navigating university resources. Fayetteville State University’s Advising Center’s mission is to promote student success by empowering students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. The Center delivers high-quality services by providing support with educational planning, course selection, resource awareness, and success strategies.


Primary Purpose of the Position:


The primary purpose of this position is to assist students, using a developmental model, with developing the knowledge, skills, and personal accountability needed to explore their academic and co‑curricular options, evaluate and track their own progress toward graduation, access support and enrichment services, and understand and follow university policies and timelines. The academic advisor addresses the general advising, registration, and enrollment needs of Fayetteville State University students to increase retention and graduation rates.


This position includes the assignment of up to two UNIV seminar courses, depending on institutional need.


This position is funded by non-state funds and has been designated time limited. Continuation of this position is contingent upon the continuing availability of those funds.


Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:


A bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of relevant work experience.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:


Knowledge-Knowledge of best practices in higher education for enhancing student academic skills; knowledge of current advising and registration technology; and the ability to help students navigate the various platforms available to them (i.e., Banner, Microsoft Outlook, and Canvas).


Skills-Communication skills to explain, write, advocate for, and report on the needs of the program and academic outcomes; interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and faculty; proficient use of computers, student success technology, Microsoft Office, and Zoom/ TEAMS ; must be attentive to detail, possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize while multi‑tasking and manage tasks in an efficient and timely manner.


Abilities-The ability to respond effectively to unexpected events and make adjustments in plans as needed; listen and analyze academic needs; generate reports on academic progression; navigate student records; answer basic questions about processes and direct students to appropriate resources as necessary; ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships; ability to manage time, work calmly under pressure, and deliver on tight deadlines; ability to work independently and collaboratively with other offices; and a viable candidate must comprehend and abide by federal and university student confidentiality requirements. Ability to work occasionally after 5:00 pm and on weekends (especially during peak times).
