Job summary

Wayne State University’s College of Nursing seeks an Academic Coordinator for the Jacob Scholars Program at the Detroit campus. The role supports undergraduate Jacob Scholars through tutoring, supplemental instruction, and early intervention to enhance retention and progression.

The position also leads recruitment efforts and collaborates with faculty, advisors, and program leadership to build a strong student pipeline. Occasional evenings/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• One to three years of experience in academic support, tutoring, student success, higher education, advising, recruitment or related area.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with college students, prospective students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners.
• Ability to coordinate multiple activities, schedules, and priorities and maintain accurate program records.
• Ability to collect, track, and report student participation, academic performance, and program outcome data.
• Ability and willingness to travel locally for high school visits, college fairs, and other recruitment activities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate year-round academic support services for Jacob Scholars, including tutoring, study groups, Supplemental Instruction, academic skills workshops, and pre-semester preparation activities in collaboration with the Academic Success Center.
• Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and supervise peer tutors and student assistants; maintain hiring, training, scheduling, and employment documentation.
• Monitor student academic progress and engagement, identify students who may benefit from additional support, and coordinate early intervention strategies.
• Collaborate with faculty and the Academic Success Center to ensure tutoring and support activities align with course objectives and identified student needs.
• Coordinate tutoring schedules, student communications, academic materials, workshops, and resources to promote student success and progression.
• Track student participation, academic performance, tutoring utilization, and program outcomes; prepare reports and use data to support program improvement.
