Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director for Academic Support Services, the Academic Success Coach plays a pivotal role in promoting student success by fostering academic growth and ensuring compliance with institutional academic policies. This position provides individualized coaching, conducts academic assessments, and implements targeted recovery strategies. The Academic Success Coach collaborates closely with the Director of Academic Support, faculty, advisors, and other student support services to deliver a holistic, data-informed approach to student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate targeted academic recovery and reenrollment outreach campaigns in support of student persistence efforts.
  • Conduct individual coaching sessions with students participating in academic recovery and/or other success initiatives.
  • Facilitate the Academic Recovery Program (ARP 101) course(s), integrating evidence-based academic success strategies.
  • Develop and maintain academic recovery modules in collaboration with institutional departments to ensure relevant and engaging content.
  • Design and deliver strengths-based workshops, academic recovery initiatives, and related programming.
  • Analyze student academic records and performance data to identify risk factors and recommend appropriate recovery strategies.
  • Monitor and track student progress, including completion of academic success plans and other required interventions.
  • Lift and reinstate Retention and Support holds in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Partner with faculty, advisors, and student support services to coordinate comprehensive student interventions.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for campus partners on institutional policies and recovery strategies.
  • Maintain detailed records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes using the designated data management system(s).
  • Provide regular updates to the Director for Academic Support Services on student outcomes, program effectiveness, and emerging trends.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in academic coaching, student success strategies, and higher education trends.
Minimum Position Requirements:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree inEducation, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • One or more years of experience in higher education success coaching, academic advising, or student support roles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or related discipline.
  • Experience facilitating student success workshops or academic recovery courses.
  • Familiarity with retention and persistence strategies, especially within HBCU or minority-serving institution contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and apply findings to improve student outcomes.
  • Proficiency with student success platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Student Success: Understanding of academic recovery strategies, persistence theory, and student development principles.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Banner, Blackboard, Zoom, Navigate, etc.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff while maintaining a professional demeanor and exhibiting a sense of initiative and responsibility.
  • Work Ethic: Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments and adapt to shifting priorities, and work both independently and collaboratively.
