Job summary

University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking an Academic Success Coach to provide one-to-one coaching to undergraduate students, helping them develop skills and confidence to thrive. The role is 20 hours per week over 10 months, with in-person and Zoom delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and two years of related professional experience.
• Experience working with students at secondary or postsecondary level in an academic coaching, advising, counseling, student success, transition, or retention-related role.
• Knowledge of evidence-based student success strategies and academic support practices.
• Proficiency with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, and student management/course management systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and adapt to dynamic student needs while ensuring confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
• Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team, managing multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced academic environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and provide feedback to students, faculty, and staff in a clear and supportive manner in diverse settings.
• Ability to deliver presentations, workshops, and other educational programming related to academic success and student engagement.
• Proven ability to build meaningful, supportive relationships with students in one-on-one coaching, mentoring, or advising settings.

Description Of Work

The Center for Academic Success and Transition ( CAST ) is seeking a passionate, student-centered professional to serve as an Academic Success Coach. This 20-hour, 10-month position is primarily responsible for providing one-to-one academic success coaching (in person and via Zoom) that helps undergraduate students develop the skills, strategies, and confidence needed to thrive at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Academic Success Coaches partner with students to strengthen time management, learning strategies, goal setting, motivation, organization, course preparation, and school-life balance while helping them navigate the challenges and opportunities of college. The position also includes proactive outreach and follow-up with students, management of assigned student caseloads, and delivery of presentations and workshops focused on academic success. The Academic Success Coach collaborates with colleagues across CAST and the university to connect students with campus resources, support student success initiatives, and contribute to a welcoming, student-centered environment. Through individualized coaching, strengths-based guidance, and meaningful relationship building, the coach empowers students to take ownership of their learning and achieve their academic and personal goals.

Minimum Required Qualifications
